Microfibre Pollution – The hidden threat of fast fashion on our oceans.
This brief challenged me to use affirmative and disruptive design methods to address marine pollution, focusing on changing harmful human behaviours that impact ocean ecosystems.
The concept for my response to the brief focused on the issue of microfibre pollution caused by synthetic clothing in the fast fashion industry, which releases harmful fibres into the ocean and threatens marine ecosystems. My disruptive solution, the "Tentacle Takeover," features bold fleece tentacles emerging from fast fashion shops and weaving through city streets to symbolise the hidden environmental impact of microfibres. Complementing this, I proposed an informative website promoting pre-loved fashion and sustainable choices, with a recurring microfibre visual motif running across physical information boards to reinforce the message and inspire behaviour change.
